Right now I'm working on a website for a homeschool mom's home-business. Although this is not the first site I have ever coded, it is the first site I have ever published.
See it here at DesignsbyMackie.com
I began by designing it in the free photoshop program Gimp 2.0, and then wrote the HTML code for it from scratch in SciTE 1.62-wbd-1. Styling was done via a CSS stylesheet, which was edited in TopStyle lite 3.10 (if you go to the Topystyle site, you'll have to scroll down to see the link for the free "lite" version).
Because of the layers feature of Gimp, when I was going over the first design draft in gimp with the mom, I was able to immediately make color, postitioning, and font changes to her liking until we had a design she was satisfied with. Later I did have one more design idea which included taking away a distracting background, but there was really no more loss of time than normal because of that.
Here is my first draft:
Here is her changes to it:
Here is the final page:

It looks very nice. Great design. Personally, I like the first one the best but that is a matter of opinion.
Yeah, The first draft was what I initially thought would look good, but of course this site was not made for me. I even explained to her that her color choices would not be exactely complimentary, but she liked it that way anyways because it looked "artsy".
It looks really nice Timo. If I'd ever gone through with doing interior design, I would've definitely had you do my site for me! :)
That would have been cool, maybe it still could be someday. You never know.
by the way, i don't know if i ever told you that i knew you had a website and that i've come and looked before...
sorry i didn't comment.
by the way, i like the final draft better because it fits the style of her business.
Yeah it does...
When I think about it, I notice it definitely makes me think of "mackie".
Don't feel like you have to comment every time you visit. I might like to know every once in a while that you've read it, but comments aren't necessarily mandatory. :)
Comments are always mandatory! ;P
